    What Is Eyelid Lift

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is cosmetic surgery to remove excess skin or fat from the eyelids.

The aim is to improve hooded or drooping eyelids or eye bags.

Before you go ahead, be sure about your reasons for wanting eyelid surgery. Bear in mind the cost, the risks, and the fact the results cannot be guaranteed.

It’s a good idea to discuss your plans with a GP first. There might be a medical condition affecting your eyelids or a reason why the operation is not appropriate for you.

What to expect after Eyelid Lift

After surgery, your eyelid may feel tight and sore. Your eye may be watery, dry, sticky, itchy, or sensitive to light. Your vision may be blurry for a few days. Your doctor will give you medicines to help with pain and discomfort.

Who might benefit from an eyelid lift surgery?

Determining your candidacy for any surgery requires an in-person consultation with the Doctor, which will include an examination of your eyes and face, as well as a review of your medical history and specific concerns. In general, healthy patients without major ophthalmologic issues are the best candidates for surgery.

If you have recently had lasik, cataract surgery, or another ophthalmologic procedure, you must wait 6 months before having a blepharoplasty. If you have dry, itchy eyes, it is likely that you will continue to have dry eyes after surgery. If you have a face with a negative vector (slanted on profile), loose eyelid skin, or lax tissue, you may require an adjuctive maneuver such as a lateral canthopexy or canthoplasty. Fat grafting and fat repositioning may also be performed.

What does an eyelid lift do?

The procedure surgically removes excess fat, muscle and skin from the upper and lower eyelids to redefine the shape of the eye.

What is a good age for blepharoplasty?

You can have a blepharoplasty at any time. But if you’re seeking one due to aging, you’ll usually get the best results after age 40.

Are you awake during eyelid surgery?

Local anesthesia numbs the eyelid and surrounding area, while keeping you sedated but awake during surgery. General anesthesia keeps you asleep throughout the entire procedure. You can discuss which type of anesthesia you would like with your surgeon.

    Recovery from an eyelid lift

After surgery, you will be able to go home the same day, once you are feeling well. You may wear your eyeglasses immediately, but contacts should not be used for the first several days, while swelling subsides.

You may go about your normal activities, such as shopping, walking, reading, and even working 1-2 days after surgery. However, swelling and bruising typically do not go away for at least one week. Many patients like to wear sunglasses for the first few days after surgery, to camouflage this. Once your swelling and bruising subsides, you will notice a more refreshed, rested, and youthful appearance around your eyes.
